Environmental protection
Ilirija d.d. systematically and continuously invests considerable time and effort into the adaptation and implementation of European Union standards, procedures and regulations in all aspects of environmental protection (of the sea, coast, water, air and soil) as well as waste management.
At the operational level, the company takes care of environmental protection management processes on an everyday basis, with the intention and obligation to comply with legal regulations; prevent environmental pollution; reduce the amount and harmfulness of waste produced; reduce emissions of pollutants into water, soil and air; and educate and train its employees with regard to environmental protection.
In 2013, Ilirija invested in improving and advancing its business processes by establishing and certifying a quality management system according to the HRN EN ISO 9001:2008 standard, which has been implemented at the level of the entire company – that is, across its hotel, camping and nautical sectors.
In July 2014, the company completed the process of implementation and certification of its environmental management system according to the HRN EN ISO 14001 standard.
The Ilirija Travel tourist agency has reached the first of three stages – the Travelife Engaged standard. Travelife is a management and certification system that provides travel agencies and tour operators with a way to establish sustainable, socially responsible practices not only internally, but also in their relationships with suppliers. The agency has committed itself to work on appropriate procedures for sustainable business management. Now that the appointed sustainability coordinator has undergone training and obtained a personal Travelife certificate, the basic steps and practices are currently being implemented. During the ‘Travelife Engaged’ phase, the agency will prepare for the next two stages.
Ilirija d.d. was the winner of the Croatian Business Tour 2014 – CBTour 2014 award, presented by the Croatian Energy Association with the aim of encouraging and promoting creative, innovative and modern programmes, projects and services in the field of business tourism for the domestic and international market, with an emphasis on sustainable development.
Ilirija received an award for its ‘Arsenal: A revitalised heritage monument’s function in organising business events’ project in the ‘Best responsible tourism programme and best team building programme’ category.
The company has received the following international environmental certificates of special significance for tourism:
- Ilirija’s hotels are HACCP certified, which guarantees a high level of control in the food production and distribution process. This system enables the identification, assessment, prevention and control of potential hazards and ensures the implementation of measures for an effective way of working.
- Since 2004, Marina Kornati has been awarded the Blue Flag for beaches and marinas, an international symbol of coastal, sea and underwater protection.
- Since 2013, the Park Soline Campsite has been one of two campsites in Croatia with the ‘Green Key’ international environmental label. This is awarded exclusively to properties that reduce negative effects on the environment through optimisation of energy consumption, waste management and sorting, as well as education of both guests and employees on the most significant aspects of sustainable development.
Park Soline Campsite was chosen from ten campsites in Croatia to participate in the Ecocamping project that is carried out in cooperation with the German Ecocamping Association with the aim of introducing the principles of sustainable development and ecology in companies that provide accommodation services.
Ilirija is among the first companies in Croatia to use green energy, obtained from renewable sources.
By adopting its environmental management policy, Ilirija has systematically, responsibly and sustainably implemented an environmental protection policy at all levels of the company. This policy enables us to minimise the negative effects of tourism on the environment and nature on the one hand, and on the other to manage our environment and natural resources in a high-quality, responsible and sustainable manner for current and future generations.
