NP Plitvice lakes
Plitvice Lakes National Park is the oldest and most famous park in Croatia and among the most famous in Europe. With its 96 waterfalls and 16 lakes in the catchment area of the Korana river, and a multitude of tributaries and streams, it is a wonderful and huge complex of forests and natural diversity. It is the oldest national park in Croatia declared in 1949 and registered on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1979. The park covers 30,000 hectares of which 200 hectares are covered by lakes. We will take you on a walking tour to the waterfalls across wooden bridges and footpaths through breathtaking landscapes. Then we will take a small tourist train and an electric boat to the biggest lake called Kozjak. Travertine shelves created by the waterfalls are a living organism that has built up over several millennia. The current configuration has been created during the past 15,000 years.
Did you know? The highest of the waterfalls, the highest in Croatia, is Veliki Slap (Large waterfall) with its 78 meters of height. The Park is home to as much as 1267 plant species, of which 22 are protected by the Nature Protection Act of Croatia.
