NP Kornati & PP Telaščica

The raw beauty of Kornati leaves noone indifferent, not even the famous Irish writer George Bernard Shaw, who wrote: “On the last day of Creation God desired to crown His work, and thus created the Kornati Islands out of tears, stars and breath.”

The pristine nature, picturesque secluded coves, clear blue sea and a rich underwater world are just some of the images which leave everyone who sails across this amazing archipelago breathless. This world-renowned ecological oasis was declared a national park in 1980. A unique maze of islands and islets, reefs, capes and coves have made Kornati a must see maritime destination for excursions. The legend says that this island archipelago was created from white rocks that remained after God created the world. After scattering them around, He decided that it was not necessary to change anything so Kornati, untouched by civilization, consist of 150 islands, islets, and reefs and spread across a total area of 320 km2.

The grandeur and beauty of Kornati is completed by the famous cliffs, the so-called “crowns” which stretch 90 m above sea level. These impressive cliffs descend steeply into the sea in the same length, allowing the flourishing of the most diverse marine world.

Right next to Kornati, in the southeast part of the island Dugi Otok, lies the Nature Park Telašćica cove. The cove surrounded by islets is the place where the beauty of natural contrasts reaches its peak– long sandy beaches and pine tree forests on one side with steep cliffs and bare rocks on the other side. Telašćica cove, the favourite destination for numerous navigators, is the safest and largest natural harbour on the Adriatic. Incredible flora and fauna flourish equally on land and sea, and there is another natural gem – lake Mir, specific for its connection with the sea through underwater channels which make it saltier than the surrounding sea!

Telašćica is also a place of a rich tradition which fills the local island residents with pride - the culture of fishing began precisely in this area, according to first records about this occupation from the end of the 10th century. Today, there are vast fields of vineyards and olive groves also located on the island.

This wondrous archipelago is an exceptional experience which you don't want to miss!
