On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the inaugural ceremony of the opening of the Consulate of the Republic of Croatia in South Australia was held in the Parliament of the Australian federal state of South Australia, headed by honorary consul Mr. David Anthony Tudorović. With Prime Minister Peter Malinauskas and Ambassador Betty Pavelich as co-hosts, the ceremony was attended by ministers in the Government of South Australia, the Speaker of the Upper House of the South Australian Parliament, the leader of the opposition Liberal Party, the Mayor of Port Lincoln, Consul General in Melbourne Joseph Petrić and leaders of organizations and associations of the Croatian community, relatives and friends.
Before the ceremonial unveiling of the plaque, Prime Minister Malinauskas, Ambassador Pavelich and Honorary Consul Tudorović addressed the crowd, reminding them of the close and long-term ties of Croatian emigrants to their new homeland, which they found in South Australia, as well as the significant contribution of the Croatian community to all segments of South Australian society - from business ties and trade, sports and culture to historical links, among which Croatian emigrants played some of the most important roles.
The opening of the Consulate was greeted with great joy and pride in the Croatian community in South Australia, and the fact that the opening ceremony was held in the very heart of South Australian democracy is an expression of a sincere desire for further development and deepening of mutual relations, as indicated in the Memorandum on Cooperation between the Republic of Croatia and South Australia, which were signed at the end of 2023 by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Ph.D. Gordan Grlić Radman and Prime Minister of South Australia Peter Malinauskas.
